"FVR should just keep quiet because his time is up. He has to respect President Duterte's decisions and moves," Senator JV Ejercito wrote in a text message to reporters. He also stated that the former president doesn't even have a good track record as a president and during his term, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) "became very strong".
"Malaki ang kasalanan ni Ramos bakit lumakas ang pwersa ng MILF and other secessionist movements. I don’t think he is the proper person to advise President Duterte on this matter," Ejercito added.
Senator JV Ejercito is the son of former President Joseph Estrada and now Manila Mayor. Back in 2000, Estrada launched an all-out war against the MILF.
Meanwhile, Senator Panfilo Lacson also some words for the former president.
"Mas makakatulong tayong mapadali na ma-resolve ang crisis sa Mindanao kung pababayaan na muna nating gawin ng pamahalaan ang nararapat under the circumstances instead of criticizing without knowing the facts and the developments obtaining on the ground," he said.
[Translation: We'll be more helpful in resolving the crisis in Mindanao if we let them (current administration) do what they have to do instead of criticizing them without knowing the facts and developments obtaining on the ground.]
He added, "It goes without saying that we should remain vigilant na lang for possible abuses in the implementation."
The ex-President criticized Pres. Duterte's decision in Marawi City crisis and called him "very panicky" for imposing planning to impose martial law nationwide and indirectly told him to limit martial law in affected areas only.
However, Solicitor General Jose Calida said on Friday that his suggestion was not yet unattainable and pointed out that the terrorists could easily escape to other cities in Mindanao.
"There is enough peace there that need not be subjected to martial law," he stated. "Our government must take strong measures without abusing human rights to limit violence...Tingnan natin kung mangyayari 'yan eh wala pang martial law, katakot-takot na ang human rights violations," as he urged authorities to not commit any abuse while under martial law.
Despite his statements, the former President expressed that he will continue to support President Duterte and hoping he'll be able to "swing" the country around.
"I still have every hope that he can swing this country around so that we are no longer always in the headlines of international news as using foul language and at the same time, calling agencies as well as leaders, bad names. My support for him continues to be there but more important, my support for President Duterte is my support for the entire Philippine team, and that includes all of you." he stated.
