PNP Chief Bato Dela Rosa Reveals Secret Connection Between Narcopoliticians and Maute Group

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa revealed that the Maute Group have been secretly aware of transactions of narcopoliticians, but pretends to be oblivious because they get protection from these politicians.

During this morning's briefing, Dela Rosa said that before he assumed his position as chief of the PNP in July last year, he was given information that a 'drug summit' happened between members of the Maute group, narcopoliticians, and drug lords.
"Even before July 1, 'yung pag-assume natin at inannounce natin agad na magsurrender ang drug lords, we received an information na lahat ng mga, karamihan ng mga drug lords dito sa Metro Manila, Luzon, and Visayas ay pumunta doon sa Marawi at nagkaroon sila ng drug summit and they were protected by the Maute group and the narcopoliticians, nagmeeting sila doon. Merong information na ganun," Dela Rosa added.

According to Dela Rosa, the Maute group and the narcopoliticians have a mutual relationship with each other.

"They protect each other and they support each other," added Dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa also emphasized that both narcopoliticians and Maute group are one of their targets during the martial law in Mindanao.

Duterte: It's All About Drugs

President Rodrigo Duterte, in his speech in Jolo on Saturday, said that the problems in Marawi were not just an ISIS campaign by the Maute group, but about illegal drugs, as well.

President Duterte stated in his report to the Congress regarding his declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao that "illegal drug money" has been used to provide "financial and logistical support" to the Maute group ever since last year.

Diyan nagumpisa."

Dela Rosa clarified reports about the Maute brothers being former policemen.

"Hindi 'yun mga pulis. Pulis-pulisan [lang]," Dela Rosa confirmed. He said that the Maute brothers pretended as policemen because they were protecting drug lords.

"Kaya nasabi ni Presidente 'yun, nagpupulis-pulisan, protektor ng drug lord. Kasi kapag protektor, nasa isip ni Presidente, pulis. Drug protector 'yun," he further clarified.
