"Yung sa atin, ginagalang natin 'yung mga desisyon nila. Pero gusto nating magkaroon ng assurance, na hindi ito magagamit sa pang-aabuso," she said in an interview in Iligan City.
[Translation: For us, we respect their decision. But we would want to have an assurance that it (martial law) will not be used to abuse.]
According to the vice president, the people fear that history will only repeat itself. Scared of what happened forty four years ago during late President Marcos regime will happen again during Duterte's term.
"Noong huli tayong nagkaroon ng martial law, noong panahon ng diktaturyang Marcos, maraming pinagdaanan na pang-aabuso 'yung ating mga kababayan. At tingin ko kailangang pakinggan din ng pamahalaan 'yung pangamba ng ating mga kababayan," she added.
[Translation: The last time we had martial law was during the dictatorship of Marcos, and our countrymen experienced several abuse. I think that our government needs to listen to the fear of our people.]
Anyway, the vice president also stated that it is too early to say that martial law is doing any good to Mindanaoans and said that the military authorities should focused more on helping the Marawi City residents and undertaking the terrorist attacks.
"Di ito panahon para mag-away-away tayo, kasi 'yung terorismo 'yung kalaban dito, hindi tayo," she said.
[Translation: This is not the time to fight one another, because terrorism is our enemy and not one another.]
As Robredo previously said the country should unite during this time, the vice president visited evacuees in Iligan City and the wounded soldiers in Adventist Hospital.
She also said that after having conversations with the evacuees, she found out that they were more concerned if they still have their houses when all is over more than their daily needs.
"Iyong iba alam na nilang nasunog iyong mga bahay nila, at pumunta sila dito ng walang kahit anong gamit," VP said.
[Translation: Others already knew that their houses were burned down and went here carrying nothing with them.]
She also said that the government should plan for a relocation for the displaced evacuees.
Vice President Robredo used to be chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) befor resigning on 5th of December.
She received a text message relayed by the president's executive assistant Bong Go which says "to desist from attending all Cabinet meetings" startomg pm 5th of December 2016.
