His story, referred to as "ultimate sacrifice", has gone viral on social media. Posted in a Facebook page called 'Sibugay Express [SiBex]' shared the 24-year old soldier's story.
In the post entitled "A different kind of Bayot", SibEx narrated the last few moments of Private First Class Dhan Ryan Bayot. The soldier's team consists of 9 members, all from the 51st Infantry Batallion who were stationed in a detachment in Brgy. Lilod, Marawi City for added security for the mayor at the town's residence.

According to a survivor, they were attacked and shot were fired from the both sides of the road and there were also shots coming from the mayor's house which the soldiers thought to be already taken by terrorists or the bodyguards might have sided with the militants, they really couldn't tell.
Soon later, five of his companions are dead, while the others allegedly escape the post but was later on found out that they too were shot, one killed while other two are wounded.
Thinking he's alone, he radioed his commanding officer for backup but none came. On his second attempt he was told that it's impossible to get to him due to the only path to him is swarmed by enemies. With all his might, he contacted his commanding officer again and gave his coordinates and said, "Bombahin nalang ninyo ang location ko Sir!"
One of retrievers of the dead bodies of Bayot and comrade's is Sgt. Larry Bayot of the Division Reconnaissance Company of the 1st Infantry Division, father of Private Bayot. No bullet was found in his son's body but a deep bolo cut on his neck and also his face is deformed. " Presumably, when he ran out of bullets the terrorists might have taken turns of bashing his face before slashing his neck in an attempt to behead him."
Pained seeing his son brutally killed, Sgt. Larry Bayot tried not to show it, knowing his son died for the country.
The young soldier's body was taken back to his hometown in Barangay Upper Pangi, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay where he will be buried.
On June 2, President Rodrigo Duterte paid a visit to the fallen soldier's wake and to personally console the family for their lost.
A posthumous medal was awarded Private First Class Dhan Ryan Bayot, "P250 thousand cash, and a pledge to fund for any young surviving family member’s education."
