Vice President Leni Robredo became a full-time mother while in Boston, Massachusetts.

VP Robredo flew to Boston, Massachusetts to help her eldest daughter, Aika, settle in Harvard, University as a student. Robredo posted several photos in social media of her and Aika, while heping the first born "settle in" at the prestigious university.

However, this did not seem to be accepted by some netizen and some expressed disappointment towards Robredo.

Netizen Weng Dalisay Rapirap lambasted saying she should know her palace. Holding the second highest position in the country, Rapirap said that Robredo should help first in the issues concerning Marawi City since it's her job as a public servant.

"Public servant ka eh u should know ur place second to the highest position in the counrty bkit di mo muna ausin i settle.ang mga mamamayan sa marawi ...its ur job lol maging homebase knalng nng mga anak u jn kna dn mag settle together of ur kids," Rapirap commented.

Apparently, Robredo's trip to US was amid the ongoing siege in Marawi City. While soldiers fight against the local terrorists, the vice president is out of the country for personal engagements and attended an invite-only fundraising gala of the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra (FASO).

On her Facebook page, VP Robredo posted brief details of her trip to US.

She stated that right after her "speaking engagement" in Los Angeles, she immediately headed to see her daughter Aika and help her settle in.

"I had a speaking engagement in LA during the weekend and decided to fly to Boston right after to help Aika settle in. It was a very hectic two days for both of us as we fixed and cleaned her apartment inside the campus," she started her post.

After her meeting with United Way Foundation, she and her daughter went around the university's campus and visited a few sites like the elementary school her daughter attended in 5th grade.

"Except for a meeting with United Way Foundation this afternoon to explore a possible partnership with our Angat Buhay program, I was a full-time mother once again. During a short lull this afternoon, we went around the campus and visited our old haunts from 19 years ago when we lived here. We also visited Martin Luther King, Jr.Elementary School which she attended when she was in 5th Grade," Robredo said.

"Tonight, we were lucky to join a potluck dinner among Filipinos in Harvard. In a few hours, am flying back home comforted by the thought that Aika will be in very good company," she ended her post.

WHAT'S THE ROLE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT IN THE PHILIPPINES?

Well, the VP's is just on the 'look out' if anything happens to the President or when the situation needed.

Stated on Article VII Section 8 of the Philippine Constitution, the vice president will take the place of the president and serve the remaining days as the country's leader "in case of death, permanent disability, removal from office, or resignation."

The Vice President can also function in two instances as stated in Article VII Section. First, if the elected president failed to qualify and second, if a president has not been chosen.

In short, the Vice President's role is just a 'spare tire' unless something happens to the current President.

The official website of the Office of the Vice President listed other functions for the VP.
  • Executive function or ensuring that "laws are faithfully executed"
  • Ceremonial function or representing the government with foreign government representatives
  • Advisory function as a Cabinet-level official
  • Constituency function or perform "consultations with local executives, lends support to their programs and extends financial assistance to them"
  • Administrative function or ensuring that the OVP performs and attains its goals.
