Rally King Renato Reyes Whines Over Supreme Court's Decision

Renato Reyes whines anew on account of the released decision of the Supreme Court regarding the validity of martial law declaration in Marawi City, after an ISIS-affiliated Maute group threatened the security of the southern Philippines.

"Para bagang ginawa ng Supreme Court na mas madali ang pag-declare ng martial law sa buong bansa, ginawa ng Supreme COurt na mas madali na lumabag sa karapatang pantao sa iba't-bang bahagi ng ating bayan," said Renato Reyes, the oh-so-popular mob leader known for organizing mass mobilisation to voice out their protests against the policies made by the government in general.

It is not unknown that the left-leaning group is against any sort of fascism, involving the abuses it may bring like abuses of power and unlawful extrajudicial killings perpetrated by the military.

"Masamang pangitain ito. Posibleng lalakas lalo ang loob ng mga militarista sa loob ng ating administrasyon, at ma-embolden and presidente na ipagpatuloy ang martial law beyond sixty days, at posible pang saklawin pa nito sa buong bansa," he explained in an interview.

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan in which Reyes was a Secretary General had at first been supportive of President Duterte because of the latter's anti-US sentiments and support for peace negotiation with the Communists although the group is against the administration's war on drugs campaign ever since the start of its implementation.

The table turned when Duterte dropped the still ongoing negotiation with the Communist Party of the Philippines led by his former teacher Jose Maria Canlas Sison also known as Joma.

When asked whether they were really surprised by the decision of the judiciary, Renato Reyes gave a slight smirked then answered: "Hindi naman sa nasorpresa kami pero we felt na nailatag naman namin ang mga argumento eh, na kumukwestiyon d'on sa kung bakit martial law sa buong Mindanao. Syempre mahirap, gusto namin mabasa kung ano ang pinagbatayn ng korte."

Despite this defeat in their part, Reyes made it clear that their protest against the implementation of martial law in one-third part of the country.



"Ano man ang mangyari, kahit natalo kami sa petisyon, tuloy-tuloy 'yong aming gagawing pagkilos at pagtutol para mabigyang atensyon 'yong mga nagaganap na mga human rights violations sa Mindanao bilang resulta ng martial law," he said firmly.

The Bagong Alyansa will have yet to read the basis of the Supreme Court's decision before filing an MR.

"We will await for the complete decision so that the lawyers could study the legal remedies ... basically kapag naman natalo kami sa desisyon, there is a remedy allowed by the rules of filing a motion for reconsideration. So definitely, that remedy is still available to us, and we haven't received or even read the decision of the Supreme Court. So definitely, we will continue..." Attorney Yambot, the group's lawyer, added.
