GrabFood and Foodpanda resume operations

Well, that was quick.

Following the suspension of all its operations just this morning, Grab Philippines has now announced that GrabFood and GrabExpress will resume operations. As of this writing, both services are now back up on Grab’s mobile app. Food delivery service Foodpanda made a similar announcement as well.

“Upon careful assessment of the situation on ground and after discussing with our regulators, we have resumed GrabFood and GrabExpress operations as of 1:30pm today, March 17, with skeletal delivery-fleet,” the company said in its statement. “The decision was made to support the food establishments that will continue to operate and maintain continuous flow of goods to serve the essential needs of Filipinos during these trying times. “

Likewise, the company has advised its delivery-partners to prioritize safety and wear full GrabFood gear at all times. “We will continue to exercise strict safety measures such as contactless delivery, temperature checks, increased cleaning frequency of delivery-bags, and more in cooperation with our merchant-partners.,” it added.

Foodpanda gave its own statement: “We value the safety of everyone in our community and have introduced new measures to ensure you feel secure while using our service.

“We’re in constant communication with our restaurant partners over the latest World Health Organization notices, advising them on the health and safety practices that go beyond our already high food hygiene expectations.

“We also encourage you to switch to online payment. That way, we can easily keep unnecessary human interactions to a minimum.”

Meanwile, Grab’s ride-sharing services remain unavailable to comply with the government’s directives on transport. GrabShare was already suspended on March 13, 2020 following the issuance of the social distancing guidelines for public transport. GrabCar services, on the other hand, were removed from the application just this morning.
