THE Marikina Best Shoemakers and the Pasig El Pirata won in their knockout matches to advance to the playoffs of the National Basketball League (NBL) Season 3 Black Arrow Express-President’s Cup.
Ronald Roy had 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Best Shoemakers scored a 101-97 victory over Lifenet Corp. Caloocan Executives on Sunday at the General Trias Sports Center in Cavite.
Jaddie Antonio contributed 20 points as the El Pirata won over the Zamboanga Valientes, 86-77, on Saturday at the San Leonardo Gym in Nueva Ecija.
The Best Shoemakers will go up against the Parañaque Aces, while the Pasig El Pirata will clash with the Muntinlupa Emeralds for places in the quarterfinals.
The Aces and the Emeralds hold twice-to-beat advantages.
Ryan Costelo had 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. One of his steals led to a three-point play by Roy with 41 seconds left that hand the Best Shoemakers a 99-97 lead.
Edilberto Pragoso had 19 points and nine rebounds for the El Pirata.
