Jay Sonza bares unfair if not demeaning salary of Filipino scientists vis-a-vis PH lawmakers, warns public not to expect covid cure with that salary

Retired broadcaster Jay Sonza has taken to Facebook to warn the public to temper their expectations from our Filipino scientists.

Sonza opened the FB post with a question to his socmed readers to get their attention. “Naghahanap kayo ng gamot sa New Corona Virus 2019?”

Sonza used the example of the salaries of the PH lawmakers and our molecular biologists and scientists to drive home his point why Filipinos should not expect more from our scientists.

Consider this….
May driver, security, 10-20 staff assistants.

Take note of this….
The salary our molecular biologist and scientist is less than 20K a month.
.”

Now, what do you expect?

Note: According to DOLE, the salary of entry level molecular biologist range from P20,000 – P35,000 per month and may even go up to P50,000 per month for those highly-trained and experienced.  [Link here]

Let us read the sentiments of socmed as shown by the comments below.

One netizen commented that politicians should be paid the minimum wage.

This netizen echoed the sentiment of fellow netizen above. “Why they don’t make changes -Just for this crucial time – Ibigay ang sweldo nila sa mag scientist , molecular biologist at mga front liners at doctors natin na itinataya ang buhay pAra sa mga kababayan natin kaysa mga Trapong politico na mga nag tago at hindi halos nag papakita sa mga taong tumankilik sa kanila sa oras ng pangangampanya , mahiya nman kayo sarap ng buhay ninyo mga tinamaan b kayo ng ncov ? Nag self quarantine agad kayo”

One netizen remarked that those who contribute more to society should get paid handsomely.

This netizen said this explains the brain drain in the country.  “Sir that is why a lot of bright minds leave Philippines to look for sustainable pasteur. OFWs love our country very much but since all fed-up of the system, may as well go.”

This netizen lamented the unfair treatment of our health workers in the country.

Let me wrapped up the post by leaving you with this comment from a netizen. “Sana talaga let’s change na yung mga public servants ang minimum wage to prove that they do really want to be of service to their country. Sila na ang malalaki ang sweldo yet some of them sila pa ang mga ginagamit ang posisyon for connections, for priviledges and easy cash cow.”
