Sisi Rondina, Robert Bolick, Rhenz Abando jersey auctions power #MayTwentyAko fundraiser

"ANONG ambag mo?"

Thirteen college students and fans who believe in the power of sports have answered the challenge with a campaign that they called #MayTwentyAko.  They've banded together to raise funds for both the homeless and medical frontliners who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The youth are seen as mere 'keyboard warriors', if not 'rallyists'. We are often asked, 'Ano ba ang ambag mo?', to which we answer, 'May 20 pesos ako,'" said Erika Ente, one of the students behind the campaign, told SPIN Life.

It's that phrase — "May 20 pesos ako"  — that's the perfect comeback for doubters who scoff at what, exactly, students can do.

Anchored to the belief that no amount is small enough to be of help, these students have seen the potential of tapping athletes and having their jerseys auctioned to raise money for relief goods for the homeless, as well as provide medical supplies to frontliners.

“Athletes are influential people, and [they have the power] to encourage their fans to donate to the cause in exchange of signed jerseys. We also believe that these athletes share the same cause as us, as they are more than willing to donate their experiences through their game-winning jerseys,” Ente shared.

Initially, the original plan was only to raise just P2,000  enough for only a hundred hand-sanitizers for the homeless people nearby their community but to their surprise they collected up to P30,000. They used thise funds purchase grocery items they distributed to the homeless and informal workers residing in Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, and Bulacan.

“And with continued support, we are also able to purchase 10,000 surgical masks, gallons of alcohol and liquid hand soap, as well as packed lunch and snack for frontliners of Philippine public hospitals,” she said.

Uniforms of Sisi Rondina, Kim Dy, Tine Tiamzon, Amanda Villanueva, May Luna, Jessey de Leon, are a few of the jerseys up for bidding in their Facebook page.
