A deeply concerned parent wrote an open letter addressed to DepeD Secretary Briones expressing her sentiment with regards to the announcement that schools will open this year amid the covid pandemic circulates online.
The author introduced herself as Maria Fema Duterte, wrote:
“I am speaking as a parent / teacher, Hindi pwedeng neutral lang o wala tayong kibo sa gusto ng mga DepEd officials. Buhay ang pinag-uusapan dito.”
Duterte said if local transmission happen while school children or the teachers are commuting or in the streets, that is dangerous. She said we cannot based our decision by the book or the law because it is not written in the book or in our laws who and where the virus infects.
Even teachers as well. Hindi pwedeng by the book or by law tayo babase dahil hindi nakasulat sa libro o sa batas kung sino at saan makakarating ang virus na yan.”
Duterte cited the need to postpone schooling not because of laziness but because we cannot put the lives of our children, including the employees at risk. Our children she said is God’s gift and we need to take care of them especially that there is no vaccine yet.
“We need to postpone schooling, not because tinatamad tayo, it is because malalagay sa alanganin ang buhay ng ating mga anak, pati ng mga empleyado.
Duterte remarked that our leaders has yet to present a concrete solution until now.
Duterte said we should not clash with covid-19 and insist modern technology. No technology has been found yet to match up with covid-19. Meanwhile, the best way to wait is stay at home not in school.
And the best way to wait ay sa bahay, not sa school.”
Duterte figured that not all are equipped for online study. Many students will be left behind, creating a wide gap between students who have internet and computer and those who don’t. The same cannot be said of their counterparts in private schools.
Duterte said that all of us are vulnerable. No rich countries did escape covid-19 no matter how modern they are. She appealed to DepEd Secretary not to gamble the safety of our children.
“Everyone of us. Lahat tayo vulnerable.
Duterte remarked that she is annoyed that all the plans of DepEd are purely intellectual, cognitive and what she called a “punch to the moon”. Hopefully, it is pro-life and pro safety.
Pro life sana. Pro safety.”
Duterte remarked that DepEd has been bombarded with questions and complaints because their solution is full of flaws. She said the best solution is to stay at home and wait for the vaccine.
The best solution is to stay at home and wait for the vaccine. Walang flaws yan kung prevention ang pag-uusapan.”
Duterte hoped that DepEd officials will understand that education should come secondary.
Duterte wondered why STAY AT HOME isn’t one of their options? She can’t help but ask if DepEd are protecting some private schools? Income? She asked if DepEd have plan B in case a pupil or a teacher becomes infected?
May pinoprotektahan ba silang private schools? Income?
So that DepEd will have nothing to think about and create complications, much better.
“VACCINE MUNA BAGO ESKWELA!” Duterte said with conviction.
The open letter has gone viral since it was published 14 hours again, generating 10,000+ shares, 13,000+ reaction and 59 comments from netizens.
