Brave woman lectures PH senator difference between cyberlibel, grave threat & safe space act

Before social media, it’s hard to imagine ordinary Juans writing a letter to a senator, much more lecturing him about laws since we have this notion that as a lawmaker, he or she is well-versed or an expert of PH laws.

But in the advent of social media, lecturing a lawmaker on PH laws via an open letter is easy as counting 1,2,3. Although, there is no certainty the senator will read the open letter, unless it goes viral and someone who is a friend of the friend of the politician tags him.

So without further adieu, I urge you dear followers to read the original FB post of brave netizen MJ Quiambao Reyes and tell me your thoughts on the open letter by commenting below.

MR. SENATOR,

Most of us agree that:

➡ YES, what he said was offensive. It was rude.

➡ NO, it was not libelous. It was not a threat.

It was hyperbolic. Hypothetical. He was trying to emphasize the flaw on the law you authored, albeit in a crass and cheeky way.

Most mothers can relate to your wife and can understand her outbursts to some degree, myself included. Only after your billionaire, super well connected mega wife threatened to use her unlimited resources & connection against the netizen that many people came to Mr. Alcos’ defense.

See, there’s a huge difference between cyberlibel, grave threat, and safe space act.

While the penalty for cyber libel and grave threats includes imprisonment, sa Safe Space Act ay fine of one thousand pesos (P1,000.00) and community service of twelve (12) hours inclusive of attendance to a Gender Sensitivity Seminar lang.

One does not need to be a lawyer or a genius to understand that there was neither cyber libel or threat in his post.

Bastos at offensive, pwede pa. So yeah, go ahead. Kasuhan nyo at pauwiin nyo ng bansa at pag seminar-in si Kuya. 😜
