Filipinas eye gold in Asian Games even without Stajcic

Fresh from their historic appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand, the Philippine women’s national football team is already setting its eyes on another prize.

The Filipinas want to win gold in the Asian Games.

The Filipinas had a meet and greet with their fans and the Philippine press on Wednesday at the adidas Center in Makati, where they talked about their future plans.

Katrina Guillou said that although there’s no external pressure, they really want to make a mark at the Asian Games.

“I wouldn’t say there’s any pressure, but, definitely, as a group and as a team, we want to keep building off the momentum that we have. So we want to keep bettering ourselves, taking on more opponents—tough ones!” she said in an ABS-CBN News report.

Playing in the Asian Games meant new scheduling for the Filipinas, most of whom have personal commitments abroad. But most of the Filipinas expressed their willingness to again represent the country.

“Most of us are available. If we get the call, I think, obviously, if we’re able, we’re all ready to play for the country,” said Filipinas forward Chandler McDaniel.

They are also determined to move forward even after parting ways with head coach Alen Stajcic, who is set to coach Perth Glory in the A-League.

“As long as we keep our core values the same and remain together as a group and as a family, it doesn’t matter who our coaching staff is. We’re going to be able to accomplish the same goals that we set out (to achieve),” added Sofia Harrison.
