CSB coach awaits breakthrough team performance from Blazers

College of St. Benilde Blazers head coach Charles Tiu is still waiting for his players to have a collective good game in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament.

According to Tiu, he liked it that different players are stepping up for the Blazers in their past four wins, but he hopes to see them contribute at the same time heading into the playoffs.

“Wala pa kaming game na sabay sabay sila pumutok, and I am hoping to see that from them soon,” Tiu said after the Blazers’ 74-56 win over the Arellano University Chiefs on Saturday.

“Medyo dikit-dikit ang labanan para sa Final Four, so we cannot be complacent. The players are already getting their specific roles, which is a good sign for us,” he added.

Reigning NCAA MVP Will Gozum was named Player of the Game after tallying 17 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks in the Blazers’ lopsided win over the Chiefs.

“This is my first Player of the Game this season, and I am just thankful to my teammates for continuing their trust in me kahit na nag struggle ako in our early matches this season,” Gozum said.

The Blazers now occupy the fourth spot in the standings with a 9-4 win-loss slate, while the Chiefs dropped to a 2-10 slate after suffering their second straight loss.
