Thirdy Ravena leads San-en NeoPhoenix past Utsunomiya Brex

Ferdinand “Thirdy” Ravena III and the San-en NeoPhoenix racked up their eighth consecutive win in Japan B.League Division 1 after an 89-73 beating of the Utsunomiya Brex on Saturday night at the Brex Arena Utsunomiya.

The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles star spearheaded the offense with 18 points, to go with six rebounds and two assists, as the NeoPhoenix improved to a 9-1 win-loss slate.

David Dudzinski chipped in 17 markers and seven rebounds; Ryusei Sasaki ended up with 14 markers; and Coty Clarke and Kazuki Hosokawa ended up with 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for the NeoPhoenix.

“Overall, I think we were able to win the match because our players executed our defensive game plan well,” said NeoPhoenix head coach Atsushi Ohno. “Our awareness of rebounding in the second half was good; we want to continue doing that.”

Meanwhile, Dwight Ramos and the Levanga Hokkaido (2-8) finally ended their losing streak following a 70-64 victory over the Fighting Eagles Nagoya (5-5) over at the Nagoya Biwajima Sports Center.

Ramos, a Gilas Pilipinas mainstay, did a little bit of everything in the win, filling up the stat sheet with eight points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals in almost 23 minutes of play.

Rhon Jay Abarrientos and the Shinshu Brave Warriors (3-7), on the other hand, hacked out an 86-79 victory over AJ Edu and the Toyama Grouses (0-10) at the White Ring.

Abarrientos tallied six points on two triples to go along with six assists and three rebounds for Shinshu, while Edu posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds in another losing cause for Toyama.
