Game 2 of the PVL All-Filipino Conference finals between Creamline Cool Smashers and Choco Mucho Flying Titans on Saturday night set a new attendance record.
The broadcast panel reported that a record-breaking attendance of 24,459 volleyball fans gathered at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to witness the match, establishing a new Philippine volleyball attendance record.
Among the attendees at Game 2 was tennis sensation Alex Eala, who was openly supporting the Cool Smashers as her personal trainer collaborated with the squad.
The massive crowd at Game 2 included celebrity couples Cristine Reyes and Marco Gumabao, brother of Creamline star Michele Gumabao, along with Kapamilya actress Vice Ganda.
Before this, the highest-attended volleyball game in the country was the UAAP Finals game between the De La Salle University Lady Spikers and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles on April 30, 2016, which attracted 22,848 spectators.
That particular game marked Alyssa Valdez’s final appearance with the Blue Eagles. Unfortunately, they lost the match and the championship to the Lady Spikers with a score of 19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-16.
