Tyrese Haliburton asserted his prowess for Indiana by attaining his first-ever career triple-double in the Pacers’ 122-112 quarterfinal victory against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.
The game commenced with a competitive edge as both teams reacted to each other’s plays. The first half was relatively low-scoring, particularly for these two teams that led the league in first-half points.
Yet, a 12-0 run orchestrated by Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Derrick White at the 3:12 mark propelled Boston to a nine-point lead. Two free throws by Bruce Brown narrowed the lead to seven as the first half concluded, with Boston leading 55-48.
The second half witnessed a surge in scoring from both teams, yet neither Boston nor Indiana yielded ground.
Indiana bounced back from the seven-point deficit during the third quarter and initiated a scoring run near the end of the quarter, tallying 10 unanswered points starting at the 2:47 mark. They led by 11 before Boston managed to trim it down to seven.
In the fourth quarter, Boston staged a recovery, knotting the game at 94-94 with 6:07 remaining. The contest stayed deadlocked until, with the score tied at 105-105 and 1:33 left, Haliburton executed a crucial four-point play, igniting a 9-0 run that ultimately secured the victory for Indiana.
Four players from Boston reached double figures: Tatum contributed 32 points, Jaylen Brown scored 30, White added 18, and Sam Hauser posted 15.
In contrast, Indiana featured seven players with 10+ points, led by Haliburton with 26 points (19 in the second half), thirteen assists, and 10 rebounds, marking his first career triple-double.
The Pacers extend their In-Season Tournament journey, moving on to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. They await the outcome of tomorrow’s contest between the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks to determine their semifinal matchup on Friday. (From E.D.)
