Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters forward Rhenz Abando reassured his fans that he is feeling better weeks after sustaining multiple injuries from an “unsportsmanlike action” by Goyang Sono Skygunners import Chinanu Onuaku.
The former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights forward mentioned that his condition is improving, and he pledged to make a comeback for Anyang in the ongoing Korean Basketball League season.
“I just wanna say ‘hi’ to the Jung Kwan Jang fans and to my Filipino fans. Wishing you nothing but the best this year and thank you for supporting me,” Abando said in a statement released through the Red Boosters.
“Now, I feel better than the first day that I got injured. To all the fans who got worried about me, now I’m gonna tell you that I feel better. For the past two weeks, I’m getting better so please support our team and just wait for our comeback,” he added.
Abando sustained fractures to his 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae, a sprained wrist, and a concussion after Onuaku pushed him from behind while he was mid-air during their KBL game on December 28, 2023.
The Red Boosters, in a separate statement last week, said that Abando was advised during his re-examination at the Anyang-si Gyeonggi-do to take a rest until the end of the month.
The Filipino import was averaging 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game prior to the injury for the defending champion Red Boosters, which currently have an 11-20 win-loss slate.
