Jhonnel Bauzon delivered a huge double-double performance as the Novaliches QC Warriors pulled off an 81-73 triumph over the CV Siniloan Daruma Dragons in the Pilipinas Super League President’s Cup on Friday night at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.
The lanky center finished with 26 points to go with 13 rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 31 minutes as the Warriors notched their second straight win this week for a 5-4 win-loss record.
Deo Timajo had another strong offensive game with 18 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors, which nearly surrendered the match after being up by as much as 26 points in the first half.
“Nag usap usap lang kami na ayusin namin ‘yung opensa and depensa namin lalo na nung naghahabol na ‘yung (CV Siniloan) kaya nakuha namin ‘yung second straight win,” said Bauzon.
The Warriors were scorching to start the game as they opened a 23-11 lead after the first 10 minutes before widening it to as high as 26 points at 40-14 midway through the second quarter.
The Dragons, however, countered with a huge third quarter run as they outscored the Warriors, 22-8, to cut the deficit to 45-52, but Novaliches got some timely hits from Bauzon and Timajo in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
Lord Casajeros finished with 14 points, Shawn Umali and Exequiel Biteng chipped in 11 markers apiece, and Marvin Lee ended with 10 points as the Dragons dropped to 1-6 in the standings.
