As per sports insider Snow Badua, former Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes is not in the running for the next national team head coach position.
Badua’s source reveals that the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) desires to shift its image to a “more proactive” and “fan-listening” federation.
The SBP recently appointed Erika Dy as its new executive director, succeeding Sonny Barrios.
Meanwhile, a Spin.ph report disclosed that the SBP is preparing to announce the new Gilas coach and players “very soon.”
In connection, Badua’s source shared that the SBP will no longer consider Reyes as Gilas head coach.
“Kuliglig told me SBP will no longer consider Chot Reyes,” Badua posted on X (formerly Twitter). “The ‘new management’ under Al Panlilio wants a more proactive, fan-listening SBP.”
“A team is formed to collate comments and suggestions from fans that will be evaluated as they tackle different policies of the federation,” he added.
Reyes faced online criticism in recent years after assuming coaching responsibilities from Tab Baldwin.
His final tournament with Gilas was the 2023 FIBA World Cup, concluding with a 1-4 record for the team.
