TNT head coach Jojo Lastimosa expressed regret over the series of injuries that impacted the Tropang Giga following the team’s quarterfinal loss in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Lastimosa reflected on his team’s challenges, noting the struggle with a hectic schedule, particularly with their East Asia Super League (EASL) campaign overlapping with the Commissioner’s Cup.
“Our season was a constant struggle from the get-go. We were the earliest team to start on October 4 in EASL, days before the PBA opening tapos kami pa first game,” Lastimosa told Spin.ph.
“Scheduling-wise, it wasn’t ideal for our team. Guys were in and out of the line-up and had three import changes. A lot of things didn’t go our way,” the former PBA player added.
Prior to the PBA season, TNT faced setbacks with injuries to Poy Erram and Justin Chua. Additionally, RR Pogoy was diagnosed with a heart condition, and Mikey Williams did not rejoin the team due to conflicts in contract negotiations.
Midway through the conference, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson suffered a neck injury, leading to his replacement by his brother, Rahlir. Compounding the challenges, TNT was without the services of Jayson Castro in their crucial do-or-die quarterfinal game against Magnolia on Wednesday, as the veteran guard had bone spurs on his knee and required surgery.
“I was hoping we’d catch a break eventually in the quarters, but Jayson went down. Story of our season,” Lastimosa lamented. (MJD)
