The Fil-Am Nation Select-USA and the Adamson University Baby Falcons advanced to the gold medal round of the 2024 Smart-NBTC National Finals after besting their separate semifinal foes on Friday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Baby Falcons, the newly-crowned UAAP high school boys basketball tournament champion, clinched the first finals seat after scoring a 70-65 victory over the Mapua Red Robins.
John Ray Abayon spearheaded the offense with 19 points to go with eight rebounds, while Justine Garcia and Vince Reyes chipped in 14 points apiece for the Baby Falcons.
The Fil-Am Nation Select-USA, meanwhile, made their way back to the championship round following an 81-72 victory over Batang Tiaong.
Terrence Hill continued to be a stable force for the Fil-Am Nations with 18 markers, seven boards, and four assists; Andy Gemao churned out 15 points and five rebounds; and Jacob Bayla contributed 12 points.
Meanwhile, Joey Panghulan played hero for Top Flight Sports Canada as he hit a halfcourt heave to shoot his side over gritty Arellano High School, 87-84, and reach the Division 2 finals.
Justin Thompson, the brother of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings star Earl Scottie Thompson, top-scored for Canada with 18 markers laced with six steals and five boards, while JC Espinosa also added 16 points.
Top Flight is set to duel against Eco Green Technology-Makati, which pulled away from a tight affair against Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas, 95-82, behind Russel Bayani’s 27-point outing.
