Ryan Garcia did not mind paying $1.5 million for missing the weight ahead of his clash with Devin Haney.
He also appeared oblivious to the fact that he failed to wrest Haney’s WBC super lightweight title despite winning by majority decision, as he claimed to earn as much as $50 million from the fight.
“If you bet, BET ON YOURSELF on top of what we made. EATING GOOD About 50 million ( probably more ) in one night not too shabby. I will let God guide me on how to use this money Amen
,” said Garcia who officially knocked Haney down thrice in 12 rounds during their tiff.
Garcia generated a lot of interest in the fight with his weird antics during the buildup, making fans believe that he has some mental issues ahead of the bout.
During the weigh-ins, he also missed the 140-pound limit by 3.5 lbs. He paid $500,000 per pound missed.
But his ploy paid dividends in the ring, as missed weight meant he was not dehydrated coming into the fight, thereby helping Garcia overcome the more fundamentally sound boxer in Haney.
