Biñan escapes Pangasinan’s endgame run, stays unbeaten in MPBL

The Biñan Tatak Gel Beast Motorcycle Tires GameX survived a late run by the Pangasinan Heatwaves to escape with a 75-72 win in the 2024 MPBL Season on Saturday night at the Calasiao Sports Complex in Pangasinan.

Ahead at 73-62 after back-to-back hits by Biñan’s Jaymar Gimpayan, Pangasinan went on a huge run behind Michael Mabulac and Hesed Gabo to cut the deficit to 71-75 with a minute left.

The Heatwaves cut the deficit further to 72-75 after a split free throw by Gabo with 13 seconds left.

Pangasinan still had a chance to send the match into overtime, but Gabo misfired on two three-point attempts.

Gimpayan finished with 14 points, with 10 coming in the second half, to go with nine rebounds in almost 15 minutes of action as Biñan stretched their unbeaten record to six games.

“Nag stick lang kami sa (system) namin, and sinunod lang namin ang instructions ni coach Boyet (Fernandez),” Gimpayan said.

“Mahaba din ang biniyahe namin, at hindi kami puwedeng matalo.”

Kenny Rogers Rocacurva added 12 markers, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and Michael Maestre came off the bench to contribute 10 points and five rebounds for Biñan.

Ralph Robin top-scored for Pangasinan with 22 points, Chester Ian Melencio added 15 points, and Gabo and Mabulac ended up with 11 markers apiece. They dropped to a 2-6 record.
