Coach Kung Fu, UST determined to exorcise ghost of 2019 defeat to Ateneo: ‘Babaguhin namin ‘yung history’

University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes, along with the rest of the team, is committed to ensuring that the outcome of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament differs from their last finals appearance five years ago.

Reyes emphasized that the Golden Tigresses will ramp up their preparations in the coming days to face either the National University Lady Bulldogs or the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws.

“Sabi nila, ‘History repeats itself.’ Pero babaguhin namin ‘yun result,” Reyes said in a post-game interview.

The Golden Tigresses, led by EJ Laure and Cherry Rondina, advanced to the UAAP Season 81 finals after defeating the Lady Spikers. However, they were defeated by the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in the finals.

Reyes also noted the coincidence that their victory over the Lady Spikers occurred on May 5, the same date UST defeated DLSU in the UAAP Season 81 semifinals in 2019.
