Jia Morado: Alas Pilipinas prepared for taller, stronger Kazakhstan

The Alas Pilipinas national women’s volleyball team is ready for the taller and stronger Kazakhstan squad in the AVC Challenge Cup for Women semifinals tonight at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

According to Alas team captain Julia Morado-de Guzman, they already encountered some teams with a height and skill advantage over them during the tournament’s group stage.

“Kazakhstan is a very strong team, very tall also, so medyo nakaranas naman kami ng matangkad at malakas na team in our bracket,” Morado-de Guzman said. “Kaya, like what I said, ‘Magandang training ground sa amin ‘yun group stage games.’”

Morado-de Guzman also said that Alas Pilipinas knows that their semifinal game against Kazakhstan is way different from their four group stage matches, and they just want to enter the match with a positive mindset.

“Ibang laban na din kasi ‘yung semifinals, so we will just go there with a positive mindset,” Morado-de Guzman said. “Tinatry namin na ma-maintain ‘yung hanggang sa dulo, learn from our past mistakes na din.”

“Sobrang proud ko sa naabot ng team namin, hindi madali ‘yung pinagdaanan namin, and alam namin na hindi rin magiging madali ‘yung pagdadaanan pa namin,” she further said.

Alas Pilipinas will enter the semifinal round with a four-game winning streak after sweeping their group stage games against Australia, India, Iran, and Chinese Taipei.
