Mayor Mark Alcala steers Quezon to 10th straight MPBL win

The Quezon Huskers leaned on another impressive showing of Mark Alcala as they walloped the Bicolandia Oragons, 115-86, in the 2024 MPBL season on Friday night at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

The incumbent Lucena City Mayor finished with 17 points, including two three-point conversions, to go with four assists to earn Player of the Game honors as the Huskers improved to a 10-0 record.

“Kudos to our team management; even before the start of the game, they told us that no matter what are the standings of our opponent, ‘yung standard ng play namin hindi dapat magbabago,” Alcala said.

“Kailangan pa din namin masustain ‘yung consistency namin, ‘yung chemistry namin na na-built even before the season, kapag naging consistent kami, I think, malayo ang mararating namin,” he added.

Xyrus Torres also finished with 17 points, while Gabriel Banal and Domark Matillano ended with 10 markers apiece for the Huskers, which connected for 20 three-pointers in the match.

Justine Alfonso finished with 19 points; Lord Casajeros tallied a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds; Shaquille Alanes and Raffy Reyes contributed 14 and 10, respectively, as the Oragons dropped to 0-12.

Meanwhile, the Abra Weavers (7-5) dominated the Sarangani Marlins (3-9), 82-60. Shej Roi Sumang stepped up with 12 points, seven assists, and five rebounds to be named Player of the Game.

The Paranaque Patriots (8-4), on the other hand, pulled off a close 73-69 victory over the Caloocan Batang Kankaloo (6-3), 73-69. John Uduba had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Patriots.
