Will McAloney steers Nueva Ecija over Paranaque for 11-0 MPBL start

William McAloney overcame a slow first half to steer the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards to a 90-79 triumph over the Paranaque Patriots in the 2024 MPBL season on Saturday night at the University of Bangued Gymnasium in Bangued, Abra.

Battling foul trouble in the first half, the Cebuano center tallied 11 of his 16 points in the second half as the Rice Vanguards secured their 11th victory in as many matches in the tournament.

“Medyo na-off lang ako nung first half kasi madaming fouls called against me. I just set my mindset to be aggressive with my approach to the game nung second half,” McAloney said in his Player of the Game interview.

“Medyo ok naman ‘yung tinatakbo ng team ngayon kahit na ‘yung mga bago naming players naga-adjust pa, kahit ako na isa sa pinakamatagal dito personally naga-adjust pa with the team,” he added.

Billy Ray Robles tallied a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, John Byron Villarias contributed 14 markers, and Chris Bitoon ended with 11 points for the Rice Vanguards.

John Wilson, who was acquired via free agency on Friday, has yet to make his debut for the Don Dulay-led Rice Vanguards in the contest.

John Uduba finished with a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds, while John Paul Sarao and Jielo Razon added 13 and 10 points, respectively, as the Patriots dropped to an 8-5 record.
