Julia Morado urges continuation of Alas Pilipinas women’s program

Julia Morado-de Guzman has called for the retention of the Alas Pilipinas national women’s volleyball team program despite their failed bid in the 2024 FIVB Women’s Challenger Cup.

According to the Alas Pilipinas Women team captain, maintaining the program set up by head coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito will help the national team keep in step with other countries in the future.

“You can’t expect that sa isang talo, sa isang adversity, palit agad. You keep the same people; add some new people to reinforce the team. That’s how you make a team strong,” Morado-de Guzman said.

Morado-de Guzman added that, in international competitions, countries that maintain a long-term program have the edge.

“Mas angat talaga dito is long-term preparation, a long-term system,” she said. “We’re going up against teams na tumanda sa loob ng national team. Tayo naman, ‘yun rin ‘yung goal natin, na tumanda kaming magkasama sa loob ng national team.”

“That’s how you build longevity. That’s how you build chemistry, and that’s how you build a strong team in the long run,” added the Denso Airybees setter. “So, hopefully, ‘yung ang magawa namin.”

Alas Pilipinas Women recently had a historic bronze medal finish in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women, where they only suffered one defeat in a total of six matches.
