Jia Morado-De Guzman commits to play for Alas Pilipinas in 2029 FIVB World Championship

Alas Pilipinas team captain Julia Morado-de Guzman has set her sights on representing the country when the Philippines hosts the 2029 FIVB Women’s World Championship.

In an interview with Bilyonaryo News Channel’s The Scorecard, Morado-de Guzman was quick to affirm her commitment to lead Alas Pilipinas when the world’s top nations converge in the country.

“Of course, I will do everything in my power to play in the 2029 Women’s World Championships,” Morado-de Guzman said. “It’s once in a lifetime. It gave me another goal to prepare for.”

“As athletes, we just want to do everything that we can to play at a high level and learn from what we can. And the World Championships is one place to do that. I want to be there,” she added.

Morado-de Guzman further said that, unlike the Alas Pilipinas Men, the national women’s volleyball team will have enough preparation time to have the best squad possible.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event,” she said. “When they announced that the women’s will happen here in not even four years. We were just cheering at first, and then I realized—wow, we have a lot of time to prepare for this.”

“As compared to what the men had to experience with only 16 months to prepare, they still showed how well they can play against big powerhouses internationally,” she noted. “Kami naman, we will get that chance also. So, we want to take advantage of the time that was given to us to prepare.”

With just three years to go before the global showpiece, the Alas Pilipinas skipper believes the countdown has already begun—not just for her, but for an entire nation eager to see its women’s team compete on volleyball’s grandest stage. (AC)
