MPBL: Arwind Santos sinapak mukha ni Bringas, tinapon sa laro!

The Basilan Star Horse Viva Portmasters’ 116-114 double-overtime victory over the GenSan Warriors in Game 2 of the 2025 MPBL South Division Quarterfinals on Monday night was overshadowed by the ejection of veteran forward Arwind Santos.

Santos, a former PBA MVP, was tossed out late in the fourth quarter after appearing to throw a punch at Warriors’ Anton Bringas during a rebounding scuffle. The league is expected to hand down a suspension, which could sideline him for the decisive Game 3.

Despite the controversy, Basilan kept its playoff hopes alive in the best-of-three series, thanks to Jervy Cruz’s clutch three-pointer with eight seconds left in the second overtime that sealed the dramatic win.

Cruz finished with six points, built on two three-point conversions, to go with two rebounds and two assists for the Viva Portmasters, who will battle the Warriors in the winner-take-all game tentatively scheduled for Friday.

Sherwin Concepcion led the way for Basilan with a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds, Alex Cabagnot added 22 points, while Calo, Lorenzo Navarro, and Arwind Santos chipped in 17, 11, and 10 markers.

“‘Yung Game 1 naging motivation ‘yun sa akin kasi wala akong na-contribute sa team. ‘Yung tiwala na ibinibigay sa akin ni coach Rich (Alvarez) gusto ko lang alagaan ‘yun,” Concepcion said.

Corpuz top-scored for Gensan with 27 points, Kyle Tolentino, Nico Elorde, and Marwin Dionisio added 14 markers apiece, while Joel Lee Yu and Hezy Val Acuña had 13 and 11, respectively. (AC)
