Suspects allegedly connected to shooting that left pregnant teen dead appear in court

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Three suspects arrested in connection with a deadly shooting on Juniper Avenue appeared in Recorder's Court Monday afternoon.

The July 27 incident left one pregnant teen dead and another woman injured.

One of the hearings, for 21-year-old Landon Owens, was moved to Friday after his defense attorney did not appear in court.

Police said the shooting happened during a house party, where they found two female victims.

17-year-old Keiauna McFadden, who was pregnant, was airlifted to Atlanta in critical condition. She and her unborn baby later died. The other victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Detectives identified Owens, along with 21-year-old Javon Seals and 18-year-old Deandre Scranton, as suspects.

All three are charged with murder, four counts of aggravated assault, feticide, drive-by shooting, and possession of a firearm during a crime.

Police testified the suspects were found with weapons and vehicles connected to the shooting. Investigators also said shell casings recovered from one of the vehicles matched those at the crime scene.

The state argued the shooting was gang-related retaliation for a previous homicide. Defense attorneys countered that there is no proof the men were present when the gunfire erupted.

Chief Judge David Ranieri ruled there was enough probable cause to move the case to Superior Court. Seals and Scranton remain in custody without bond.

Owens is scheduled to return to Recorder's Court on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
