American boxer Rolando “Rolly” Romero stirred controversy after alleging that Manny Pacquiao repeatedly demanded higher pay during negotiations for a potential bout that never materialized.
Romero made the claim on social media as discussions around Pacquiao’s upcoming rematch with Floyd Mayweather continue to gain attention.
“Also completely unrelated and I didn’t want to fight Pacquiao out of respect for legend, nor would I have got my credit, but he kept calling me out then wastes my time because he is so broke he wouldn’t stop asking for more money,” Romero wrote on X.
Romero did not provide proof to support the accusation, but his remarks surfaced as Pacquiao prepares for a high-profile return to the ring.
The 47-year-old Filipino icon recently fought former WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in an attempt to capture another title, but the bout ended in a majority draw.
Pacquiao is now set for a long-awaited rematch with Mayweather on September 19, 2026 at the Sphere in Las Vegas, more than a decade after their first encounter.
Despite the off-ring controversies, the planned Pacquiao-Mayweather rematch remains one of the most anticipated events in boxing, with fans expected to flock to Las Vegas for another showdown between two of the sport’s biggest names. (AC)
