PH routs Guam in Tri-Nations friendly opener

The Philippine Men’s National Football Team opened its campaign in the 2026 PFF Tri-Nations Friendlies with a dominant 5-1 victory over Guam on Wednesday night at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Jarvey Gayoso and Andre Leipold played key roles in the convincing win as the Filipinos overwhelmed Guam before a crowd of 2,243 spectators.

The home side wasted little time asserting control, with debutant midfielder Cole Mrowka finding the back of the net in the sixth minute to hand the Philippines an early advantage.

Gayoso doubled the lead in the 18th minute after converting a rebound opportunity following an initial save by Guam goalkeeper Josiah Jones. The goal marked the fifth international strike for the former Ateneo standout.

The Philippines continued to dictate the pace and stretched its lead further just before halftime when defender Santi Rublico scored in the 44th minute, giving the hosts a comfortable 3-0 cushion heading into the break.

Guam managed to pull one back in the 61st minute after Levi Berg capitalized on a mistake by Philippine goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad.

Any hopes of a comeback, however, were quickly extinguished as the Philippines restored order. Gayoso later set up Leipold for his first goal in national team colors in the 63rd minute, re-establishing a three-goal lead.

Leipold completed his brace in stoppage time, sealing the emphatic result and capping a productive evening for the Filipino attack.

The victory gave the Philippines a strong start in the friendly tournament, which also features Myanmar.

Guam will face Myanmar next, while the Philippines is scheduled to take on Myanmar on Tuesday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
