The Armed Forces of the Philippines has apologized to the people as the war to liberate Marawi City from ISIS-influenced terrorist groups in Mindanao has dragged on for a month now.
Super Radyo dzBB's Rod Vega reported Thursday morning that AFP's Public Affairs Office chief Col. Edgard Arevalo, on behalf of the soldiers, expressed regrets for the prolonged war that has already displaced hundreds of thousands of residents and destroyed a good part of the city.
No need to apologized as all of us knows and understand that they are doing what is right to protect Marawi.
Vega quoted Arevalo as saying that military operations to liberate Marawi cannot be rushed as there are a number of things to consider.
Arevalo said, the enemy is using civilians as human shields and so as to minimize collateral damage, government troops must be careful in their operations to protect these civilians from getting hurt.
But he expressed confidence the war will end soon as security forces are in the final phase of the clearing operations. Still, there are pockets of resistance from the enemy.
On the other hand, he said, rushing the mop-up operations might unnecessarily put soldiers' lives in danger as the terrorists have dotted the areas around their strongholds with improvised explosive devices.
But he assured the people that the military is relentless and determined in their efforts to end the siege.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday also apologized to the Maranao people for the destruction suffered by Marawi City.
"Hindi pa man natapos ang Ramadan, I would like to say to the Maranao people that I am very, very, very sorry na nangyari ito sa atin. Sana sa madaling panahon you can find it in your heart to forgive my soldiers, ang gobyerno, pati ako for declaring martial law," he said during his visit to the National School of Fisheries in Iligan City.
Tatay na tatay talaga ang dating ng ating pangulo.. Alam naman natin lahat kung ano ang dahilan kung bakit siya nagdeclare ng Martial Law talagang inaako niya lahat kahit hindi naman niya kasalanan.. Kasi ginawa naman niya ang tama.. Kaso may mga pangyayari talaga na hindi natin maiwasan..
