President Rodrigo Duterte pardoned 10 political prisoners on Thursday.
Rights group Karapatan Sec. Gen. Tinay Palabay said in a Facebook post that National Democratic Front consultant Emeterio Antalan as well as Ricardo Solangon, Joel Ramada, Apolonio Barado, Jose Navarro, Generoso Rolida, Arnulfo Boates, Manolito Matricio, Josue Ungsod, and Sonny Marbella were released from the New Bilibid Prison after receiving presidential pardon.
Duterte earlier granted presidential pardon to the prisoners who would join the peace negotiations between the government and the communists.
They include communist leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon.
Malacañang, however, has yet to issue a statement on the latest development.
Earlier, Duterte warned the communists that he would not pursue with the peace talks if they would not stop their alleged extortion activities

Actually this is the the second time the President released political prisoners. Around 20 detainees were released in late 2016.
However, NDFP Chief Negotiator Fidel Agcaoli said Thursday's release was volunteered by the government in December.
"This manifests the regime's total lack of empathy and concern for the plight of political prisoners who are/have been in prison for trumped up charges in violation of the CARHRIHL (Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law)," Agcaoili told Kodao.
Agcaoili said there are 409 political prisoners still in detention.
