The Office of the Ombudsman ordered the filing of criminal charges against former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III over his "liability" in the bloody Mamasapano encounter in January 2015.

According to CNN report, Aquino will face trial on the violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. The office of the ombudsman said Aquino wrongfully allowed suspend PNP Chief Alan Purisima to play a major role in the operation that resulted the death of 44 members of SAF in the Mamasapano hometown in Maguindanao.

"Despite this, SMS (Short Messaging Service) exchanges between President Aquino and Purisima showed that the suspended police chief played a major role in the botched operation," the Ombudsman said.

Aquino said he ordered the SAF to coordinate with the military but then SAF Commander Getulio Napeñas Jr. disobeyed his orders. Napeñas said Aquino must be held responsible as well.

Justice delayed is justice denied.
