Sen. Bam Aquino: Delinquent Cops Must be Fired, Not Reassigned

Senator Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV agrees with ARMM Department of National Defense Chief Executive Delfin Lorenzana on the issue of treating Mindanao as a "dumpsite" for misbehaved cops.

DND executive Delfin Lorenzana first made the statement regarding the issue saying that Mindanao is not a place for these scalawag cops, as opposed to the action of the Philippine National Police Chief Bato Dela Rosa.

PNP Chief Bato Dela Rosa recently displaced the two police officers involved in a viral video showing that they are hitting two curfew violators with their stick. The two violators received bruises and injuries because of the attack.

After the video has gone viral in social media, the two victims of the abuse reported the incident. The video was used as evidence of the abuse and was also used to evaluate the case of the two policemen who are PO1 Jose Julius Tandog and PO1 Chito Enriquez, police officers of the Mandaluyong PNP.

PNP Chief Bato Dela Rosa eventually filed to transfer Tandog and Enriquez to Marawi where there is still an ongoing battle between the terrorist groups and the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police officers.

However, this action by the PNP was opposed by DND executive Delfin Lorenzana.

Just recently, Bam Aquino made a statement agreeing with Lorenzana on his opposition with the PNP action. Aquino stated that the delinquent police officers would only be a burden to the fighting force in Marawi than do any good.

"Ang mga pulis na nang-aagrabyado ng taumbayan at gumagawa ng katiwalian ay dapat managot at matanggal sa puwesto. Marami sa mga pulis na nagtatrabaho nang maayos ang nadadamay sa kanilang ginagawang kapalpakan," Aquino stated.

In addition, Senator Aquino said that these cops who abused their power should have been fred, not just reassigned for they might affect the performance of those cops who are doing their jobs properly.

"Filipinos deserve an upstanding police force. Delinquent cops should be fired, not just reassigned and send to Mindanao," Aquino said.

"Napakahalaga na may tiwala ang tao sa pulis, lalong lalo na sa Mindanao kung saan may Martial Law at banta ng terorismo. We should send our best and brightest, not those who abuse their power," the senator added.

The recent transfer of the two officers was also disapproved by Lanao del Sur assemblyman Zia Alonto Adiong.

"Hindo po tayo dito basurahan para sa mga abosado at tiwaling pulis ng Metro Manila," Adiong tweeted, conveying his thoughts on the PNP mandate.

PNP chief director Dela Rosa defended his action by saying that he thinks that the transfer will turn the two abusive police officers into better policemen.

Dela Rosa was also supported by Senator Chiz Escudero and Senator Gringo Honasan , who is a former military official.

"For as long as administrative and crimina cases are filed against the erring cops, I don't see anything wrong with assigning such cops to 'difficult posts' while awaiting their suspension or dismissal from the service," Senator Escudeor stated.

"I don't think they will dare bring with them their bad habits and may even learn a lesson or two from their exposure in such difficult assignments," Sen. Francis 'Chiz' Escudero added.

"What the chief PNP does to scalawags is a purely administrative and procedural matter that is governed by the law, and PNP rules ans regulations," Sen. Honasan supported Dela Rosa.
