Grab has suspended all of its operations following enhanced quarantine announcement

When the government announced Luzon’s enhanced quarantine and public transportation ban, it meant it. No buses, no trains, no jeepneys, and no Grab, too.

The ride-hailing giant has suspended all of its operations within Luzon, including GrabFood, GrabExpress, and GrabTrike. The company made the announcement over Facebook earlier today. Look:

“We are one with the government in combating the viral spread and are working with the different government agencies to find ways to continue serving the needs of Filipinos during these times,” Grab said in its announcement.

Last night, Grab Philippines head Brian Cu expressed dismay over the government’s decision to suspend public transportation. He said via Facebook post that GrabCar remains a safe option for health workers looking to get around amidst the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“Grabcar remains a safe option for heath workers. Pag tinigil pati ang GrabCar how will they get to the people they need to help?”

Not long after, though, the executive expressed Grab’s willingness to comply with the government’s enhanced quarantine measure, saying the company is in close coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to monitor the situation.

“In the interest of public health safety, hinihikayat po namin ang lahat na manatili sa kanilang tahanan, at palagiing mag-observe ng personal hygiene. Babalitaan po namin kayo as soon as may mga mahalagang information na available. Maraming Salamat po,” Cu said.

On March 13, 2020, Grab suspended its GrabShare service to comply with social-distancing guidelines set by health authorities. It appears we didn’t need to wait long for the rest of the firm’s services to follow suit. Were you hoping to rely on Grab to get around during the enhanced quarantine period?
