Vico Sotto: Tricycles allowed to continue services in Pasig during enhanced quarantine

The recent announcement of an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon has resulted in the suspension of all modes of public transport. This has posed a problem, however, for health workers who need to get to and from their posts.

In response to this, the Pasig City government is providing free rides using its vehicles. However, Pasig City mayor Vico Sotto released a statement saying that this measure will not be enough to address the demand, and thus the local government is allowing tricycles to operate within city limits given that drivers and passengers strictly comply with the guidelines.

“We’re using our vehicles but it’s NOT enough. Our risk assessment shows that we can’t ban tricycles at this point,” Sotto said. “Health workers need to get to work. Some emergencies can only be reached by [tricycle]. For now, I am allowing tricycles to operate within Pasig. TORO will issue guidelines.”

This means each tricycle may only ferry limited passengers, and these passengers must observe proper social distancing. Also, Sotto clarified that only those who are exempted from the quarantine will be allowed to commute around the city via these vehicles. You can see Sotto’s official post on Facebook below.
