Retired PNP legal officer says Maria Ressa’s guilty verdict proof PH democracy is very much alive!

A certain netizen named Reynold Villania has taken to Facebook expressing his opinion on the significance of the guilty verdict handed by the local court versus Maria Ressa of Rappler and company.

In a Facebook post with the title “Guilty”, Villania began by posing a question to his readers regarding the implication of the court decision versus Maria Ressa.

According to Villania, the guilty verdict versus Maria Ressa is proof that Philippine democracy is very much alive. There is freedom if there is no limitation of rights. Life is meaningless without death. There is no light when there is no darkness.

Villania continued that court decision demonstrates the principle of fair and equal sharing of power among the three branches of government – the executive, judicial and legislative. The executive (prosecution) is the prosecutor of the case while the judicial makes the decision. Their power is equal and no one interferes with the business of the other.

Villania said the case of Ms. Ressa was decided by the courts, not by the executive. Villania stated it is high time the Philippine media observes truthful and legal reporting while fighting human rights violations – cyberlibel.

BTW, Reynold Villania is a retired Legal Officer at Philippine National Police, Bicol Region V.
