Just recently, Lea Salonga made the headlines after the singer-actress, best known for her performances in Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, Aladdin, Mulan etc. vented her frustrations with what is going on in the country on Facebook.
However, the singer-actress did not categorically state what caused the dam, figuratively speaking, to burst.
Perhaps, Miss Lea Salonga’s tweet might give us the clue as to where the frustrations of the Broadway star was coming from. I can’t find this anymore in her socmed accounts, be it on Facebook or Twitter. Credits to Edwin Jamora for sharing the screenshot of Lea Salonga’s post.
This brings us to the FB post of the FB page “Luminous by Trixie Cruz-Angeles & Ahmed Paglinawan” who wasted no time to educate the misinformed Ms. Lea Salonga with regards to the anti-terror bill. In hindsight, the singer-actress’ recent tirades on socmed makes more sense now to me.
In a Facebook post, Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles remarked that she’s starting to get worried that people think that mere act of buying a bladed thing in a hardware store is enough for the police to think you are already a terrorist?
“Nakaka worry that people really think that buying a kitchen knife from a hardware store would give rise to a suspicion of terrorism.”
Atty. Angeles can’t help but cussed and asked, “Inangyan. Who is putting these ideas into people’s heads?”
Atty. Angeles went on to cite a provision of the anti-terror bill to dispel the wrong notion of people, including Miss Lea Salonga on the controversial bill that is expected to get the signature of President Duterte anytime this week.
“Sec. 4 of the Anti Terrorism Bill is clear that there must be an intent. One cannot assume intent from merely buying a frikkin’ knife from a frigging hardware store. Malay ba nating magluluto ng sisig yung tao, lintian.”
Besides, Atty. Angeles explained that the detention of 14 days needs to be reasonable that the detainee is involved in terrorism or about to commit. And seeing a person purchase a knife from a hardware will not establish that.
“Furthermore that detention of 14 days needs to be reasonable meaning there is a belief that the detainee is involved in terrorism or about to commit it. And you do not get such a belief from seeing a person buy a gadem knife from a gadem hard-fecking-ware store.”
Atty. Angeles called this reduccio ad absurdum aka “ginagawa tayong tanga” argument.
“This logical fallacy is called reduccio ad absurdum, or reducing the argument into absurdity. Also known as the “ginagawa tayong tanga” argument.”
An obviously frustrated Atty. Angeles exclaimed in jest, “Saan ba may sisig? Nagutom tuloy ako.”
