Ubas wins two gold medals in Finland, Italy

The Philippines Janry Ubas captured two gold medals from separate long jump competitions in Finland and Italy to beef up his chances of qualifying for the World Championships.

The Southeast Asian gold medalist first dominated the men’s long jump in the Motonet Grand Prix Lappeenranta in Finland two days ago by registering 7.86 meters.

On Sunday, he clinched another gold, this time in the Triveneto Meeting Internazionale in Trieste, Italy. There, he registered 7.72 meters for sure points in the World Athletics rankings.

Ubas currently ranks No. 53 in the world, pending points from Finland and Italy.

He needs to make it to the top 36 to earn a qualification for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, next month.

Last May, Ubas won the gold in the Southeast Asian Games men’s long jump with a mark of 7.85 meters.
