Earl Scottie Thompson has become the new public enemy No. 1 among Gilas Pilipinas supporters.
Following his error-filled performance in Gilas Pilipinas’ 87-81 defeat to the Dominican Republic in the 2023 FIBA World Cup on Friday night, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings star has faced significant backlash on social media.
Thompson struggled when he entered the first half, quickly committing consecutive turnovers and two fouls. Gilas head coach Chot Reyes subsequently substituted him out for Kiefer Ravena.
However, the reigning PBA MVP continued to struggle in the second half, accumulating three more turnovers and excessively dribbling the ball. These actions hindered Gilas from maintaining proper possession.

On a more serious note, Kiefer doing better PG duties than Scottie this game. Scottie being sloppy is one of the things that hurt this team.

This marked the second instance in which Thompson faced criticism from Gilas Pilipinas supporters. The first incident was when he missed two free throws during the national men’s basketball team’s 91-90 loss to Jordan in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers last February.
