Luis “Chavit” Singson has called for an investigation into those responsible for sending unqualified shooters to the 2023 ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Italy.
According to the former Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) president, he called on the Philippine Olympic Committee, the Senate, and the House of Representatives to spearhead the probe and ensure accountability for those responsible.
“Being the past PNSA president, dapat imbestigahan ng POC sino ang responsible na nagpadala mga shooters na ‘yan na hindi qualified,” Singson said.
“Nakikiusap din ako sa Senate kung sino ang nasa committee of sports imbestigahan ‘yan para hindi na maulit ‘yan, same thing in Congress,” added the veteran politician.
Singson expressed his surprise that a Filipino based in the United States, without any qualification record, was selected to represent the country in the event. The shooter ultimately finished in last place in the competition.
“May naganap na Shotgun World Cup sa Italy yun lang nakakahiya tayo kasi sa mga competition na ganyan, hindi dapat nagpapadala ng hindi qualified kasi pagpunta sa ganyang World Cup dapat magaling,” he said.
“May pre-qualification, then qualification. Kapag hindi ka pumasa, hindi ka ipapadala,” he added. “Nagtaka ako sa World Cup nagpadala sila ng imported pa, Filipino pero from US tapos walang record tapos kulelat,” he added.
Singson emphasized that having shooters who lacked the proper qualifications represent the country and subsequently finish last on the world stage was a humiliating situation.
“Kailangan kapag sumali ka dyan, mag ensayo ka ng husto kasi ire-represent mo ang Pilipinas. Nakakahiya ‘yung kulelat ka dyan. Alam mo kapasidad mo, huwag mo ipilit,” Singson said.
“Kung ipipilit mo, mapapahiya ang buong Pilipinas. Kawawa ang mga Pilipino. Nanonood sayo ang buong mundo tapos kulelat ka, nakakahiya,” he added.
