The College of Saint Benilde Blazers got their acts together in the overtime period to score a 93-85 triumph over the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament on Friday at the San Juan Arena.
Will Gozum took charge of the offense in the extension period, scoring a basket to give his team a 79-77 lead, followed by a jumper from Migs Oczon, extending the lead to four points.
The Blazers, undeterred by the Heavy Bombers’ physical plays, increased their lead to 89-81 with 33.4 seconds left, thanks to a three-pointer by Miggy Corteza.
Corteza top-scored for the Blazers with 21 points, while Gozum returned from a one-game suspension with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Agem Miranda had a career-high 31 points, with 18 coming in the opening half, for the Heavy Bombers, which tied the Blazers at a 1-1 win-loss slate.
