Paul Lee takes on unofficial assistant coach role for UE Red Warriors

Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots superstar Paul Lee can be credited with contributing to the strong start of the University of the East Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 99 men’s basketball tournament.

Red Warriors head coach Jack Santiago revealed that Lee has taken on an “unofficial” assistant coach role by attending UE practices and providing valuable guidance to the current squad members.

“Si Paul Lee kasi, nakakatulong sa team. Sumasama siya sa aming practice,” Santiago said after the Red Warriors opened the season with an 80-70 win over the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.

“Parang assistant coach na rin siya na nagbibigay ng payo sa mga players, kaya’t nagpapasalamat kami kay Paul,” added the second-year Red Warriors mentor.

Noy Remogat, who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists in UE’s victory over UST, also acknowledged Lee for contributing to his more mature performance this season.

“Dati kasi nung offseason, thrice a week lagi siyang nakikisabay sa training, at kapag nakii-training siya sa amin, lagi niya kaming tinuturuan na ang point guard ay dapat matured sa court,” Remogat said.

“Sabi niya sa amin na dapat alam mo kung kailan ka dapat iiskor at alam mo rin kung kailan ka dapat magpasa,” he added. “‘Yun ‘yung laging ko natatandaan kay Kuya Paul na sinabi niya sa amin.”

Lee, a former standout of the Red Warriors in UAAP Seasons 69 to 73, achieved recognition as the Most Improved Player during the 72nd season and earned a place in the Mythical Five during his final year with the team.
