Source: UST’s Adama Faye benched against UE after claiming injury

University of Santo Tomas head coach Alfredo “Pido” Jarencio had to field an all-Filipino lineup in the second half of their 80-70 loss to the University of the East Red Warriors because foreign student athlete Adama Faye claimed to be injured.

Atletiko received information from a source indicating that the second-year Senegalese center expressed various complaints during the game, prompting Jarencio to rely on his local players for the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament opener.

“During the game, he was complaining about a lot of things; he was saying na masakit ‘yung likod niya or masakit ‘yung ganyan niya, so coach Pido has decided to bench him na lang,” the source said.

“Napansin naman din siguro ni coach na parang wala siya sa huwisyo maglaro, so mas better na maglaro na lang ng all-Filipino at least nakapagpakita pa ng fight kahit papaano nung second half,” he added.

Faye played for a total of eight minutes and 32 seconds against the Red Warriors, during which he missed both of his field goal attempts, made one of two free throws, and secured three rebounds.

This wasn’t the first instance of Faye displaying such behavior, as he had previously decided not to play for the Growling Tigers at the last minute during UAAP Season 84.

Faye made a comeback to the team in Season 85 but was subsequently ejected from two out of their 14 matches due to disqualifying fouls.
