Rookie Luis Villegas reveals his PBA player comparison

Luis Villegas claimed that his style of play and skillset are almost similar to those of former PBA star Ranidel de Ocampo.

During an interview with Noli Eala on the Power & Play show, Villegas admitted that he had little knowledge about Philippine basketball before he arrived in the country for his one-and-done stint with the UE Red Warriors.

But after his short UAAP career, he joined TNT in the PBA 3×3 tournament, where he met De Ocampo, who is one of the team’s assistant coaches. His stint with TNT allowed him to see De Ocampo’s offensive arsenal.

“I would like to think of myself as a hybrid, a big guard,” Villegas said in the interview. “The closest comparison that I can put myself is one of my former coaches at TNT. That would be RDO [Ranidel De Ocampo].”

“Just how he plays, his style, we always joke around, give each other nudges here and there, but I’m definitely a combo of a big and a guard,” he added.

Just like De Ocampo, Villegas can finish in the paint and knock down three-pointers. However, Filipino fans will have to wait until January before they can watch Villegas in action. The 6’7 forward is still recovering from an ACL injury. (MJD)
