Adamson’s Vince Magbuhos gifts himself perfect birthday with game-winner against Ateneo

Vince Magbuhos called his buzzer-beating, game-winning triple in the Adamson University Falcons’ 74-71 overtime victory against defending champions the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles a perfect birthday gift.

Tied at 71-all with just three seconds left, Magbuhos received the ball from the top of the key and banked in a buzzer-beating three-pointer.

On his birthday, Magbuhos scored 11 points as the Falcons secured their second consecutive overtime win, giving them a 2-1 start in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament.

“I just want to thank the Lord for this perfect birthday gift,” Magbuhos said in a post-game interview. “Nag pray ako kaninang umaga, hiniling ko na kung may bibigay Siyang gift, ‘yung panalo na lang.”

The Falcons faced a tough challenge in the game, falling behind by 19 points in the first half before mounting a comeback that led to overtime at 69-69 with a three-pointer by Matthew Montebon.

In overtime, the Blue Eagles briefly took the lead at 71-69 with an inside shot by Mason Amos, but the Falcons responded and tied the game at 71-all with a basket by Cedrick Manzano.

The game remained scoreless for several minutes in overtime, and with 24 seconds left, the Blue Eagles had a chance to take the lead, but Amos missed both of his free throw attempts. Adamson capitalized on the opportunity to secure the win with Magbuhos’ game-winning shot.

Eli Ramos, a former Blue Eagles player, scored 12 points, while Manzano contributed a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Soaring Falcons.

Amos was the top scorer for the Blue Eagles with 12 points, while Kai Ballungay contributed 10 markers as they fell to a 1-2 win-loss record.
